Churchill
In the long line of British prime ministers there has been no one quite like Winston Churchill. How did a man responsible for some of history's greatest military disasters become the hero of the British people and the only man who could lead them through this war?

CHURCHILL looks at the man who symbolized the struggle of democracy against dictatorship. Prior to World War II his career had been one full of controversy and dismal failures. In the dark hours of 1940 Britain, her empire, and commonwealth stood alone against Nazi Germany. Churchill was summoned to the prime minister's post. His energy and determination, oratory and fighting spirit rallied his shaken countrymen. This was his finest moment. His alliance with the United States guaranteed the defeat of Nazism-achieved, ironically, just before his own loss in the election of 1945.
Correctly surmising Stalin's intent for the Soviet Union to dominate Europe, he labored to warn the free world of communist imperialism. He spent his life's autumn as the foremost symbol of democracy's tenacity in the face of adversity.
